This neoclassical revival building has been a landmark in the heart of downtown Royal Oak since 1923. Completed in 2005, Morningside restored its historical exterior, while adapting the interior to provide retail and office space.

This historic preservation project was the final of three phases of a mixed-use project spanning two city blocks in downtown Royal Oak. The project also included SkyLofts Royal Oak, a 70-unit loft development with ground-floor retail, and Main Place, a 50,000 square-foot retail building anchored by Barnes & Noble bookstore.

Morningside came to Royal Oak with a vision and a plan that could respond to the ideas of city leaders and citizens. The development team and the city’s blue ribbon committee collaborated through a series of designs for the development, which the city approved in 2001.

In 2003, the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce named Morningside President David Strosberg its businessperson of the year.
