Liberty Lofts preserves a piece of Ann Arbor’s history while bringing residential vibrancy to Main Street shops and restaurants. In this development, Morningside Group renovated an early-20th century factory and paired it with new construction to create 68 lofts, where industrial surfaces and exposed systems provide a complementary contrast to the luxurious fixtures and finishes. An attached 23,000-square-foot retail space, with 54 parking spaces, will serve downtown visitors and residents of the adjacent Old West Side historic district.
The project appealed powerfully to Morningside’s corporate commitment to sustainability, walkability and history. Those principles provided a solid foundation for the productive, positive relationship between the Morningside team and Ann Arbor’s civic leaders throughout planning, permitting and construction.
In May of 2007, the city of Ann Arbor’s Historical District Commission named Liberty Lofts the 2007 Adaptive Reuse Project of the Year.
