IKEA Design Manager Opens the Doors of Her Royal Oak Condo

Heidi Tippery gives new meaning to “bringing work home.” Her
condo at Royal Oak’s MarketSquare is colorful, contemporary and
comfortable – everything you would expect from a communications
and interior design manager for IKEA in Canton. The single
professional shares her design secrets with Strut. Go for Bold
Accent walls are painted a rainbow of colors – from the chartreuse wall pictured here, to orange, red, blue and mustard throughout the loft. “I’m a very bright person,” Tippery says, “as in cheerful.” Paint is an inexpensive design statement – important since Tippery says she changes her tastes every few years. Tippery pairs the walls with basic furniture pieces in browns and taupes. Her vibrant walls are broken up by white walls for more impact.
That’s Entertainment
“The greatest part of a loft,” Tippery says, “is entertaining, because you can talk and cook all at the same time.” The avid cook, who has hosted as many as 30 guests in her urban setting, serves anything from fondue to Japanese food. Simple multi-colored vessels make a statement – and serve as a centerpiece on the sleek lines of the multi-purpose table.

Simple white bookshelves provide storage and divide spaces in the loft, while doorways (without doors – common for newly built lofts) become frames for art found by this self-confessed “art fair freak.” Tippery has lived and traveled across the globe, and is fond of three-dimensional art and unusual paintings, which she masterfully mixes with inexpensive prints – some from (you guessed it) IKEA. In order for something to make the cut, “It has to be fun,” Tippery says.
